The Grateful Dead created something unlike any other band in American music. Their songs were never meant to be played the same way twice. Through improvisation, exploration, and a deep connection between musicians and audience, each performance became a living, breathing experience.
The world's greatest wines share that same philosophy.
Just as every Grateful Dead performance is shaped by the moment, every great wine is shaped by its terroir, the unique combination of soil, climate, landscape, and human touch that gives it character and soul. The song is the vineyard. The musicians are the winemakers. Through interpretation and improvisation, both transform something timeless into something entirely unique.
On June 17th, the acclaimed Grateful Dead tribute band Grateful To Be Alive will bring the Dead's legendary catalog to life, performing songs inspired by the band's historic European tours of 1972, 1974, and 1981. Along the way, guests will enjoy a thoughtfully curated flight of wines selected to complement the music's mood, energy, and evolution throughout the evening.
The connection between the Grateful Dead and wine runs deeper than you might think. From references woven into songs like Jack Straw, Wharf Rat, The Music Never Stopped, and One More Saturday Night, to the band's roots in San Francisco, just a short journey from Napa Valley, the culture of storytelling, place, community, and celebration has always connected these two worlds.
Guiding the tasting experience is David Hamburger, one of America's most respected wine educators and a 25-year veteran of Acker Wines. David will share the stories behind each wine, helping guests discover how the nuances of great wines can mirror the depth, spontaneity, and emotional resonance of great music.
The evening's wine selections have been curated by Philippe Newlin and the City Winery team, featuring exceptional wines from across Europe and America that honor the spirit of the Grateful Dead's legendary journeys abroad.
Whether you're a devoted Deadhead, a passionate wine lover, or simply someone who appreciates unforgettable experiences, Vintage Dead offers a rare opportunity to savor both music and wine in a completely new way.
Come raise a glass, celebrate the journey, and experience the songs as they were always meant to be heard alive, evolving, and shared together just like a glass of fine wine.
🍽️ We provide food and beverage service directly to your table in the venue. Or, for an expanded menu and more relaxed experience, arrive early and enjoy a meal in our restaurant before the show. When dining in the restaurant, reservations are encouraged and can be made via Resy starting one month before the show. View Our Concert Dining Menu.(opens in a new tab)
🎶 While we do not require a two-item food or beverage minimum, we strongly encourage it. Most ticket revenue goes directly to the artist and production costs, so food and drink purchases help support the staff, service, and atmosphere that make these intimate shows possible.
The good news: we think you’ll love the food and wine just as much as the show.
