Kim Wilson didn't study Chicago blues from a distance. He learned it from the people who made it. At 18 he was playing alongside Eddie Taylor. He ate dinner with Muddy Waters after the show. He watched Little Walter, James Cotton, and Big Walter shape a genre around the harmonica he'd spend his life perfecting.
What Wilson calls a "tribute" is really something closer to testimony. The Chicago blues that migrated north, plugged in, and learned to hold a room is the music he grew up inside, and it shows every time he opens his mouth or lifts that harmonica.
