Ron Pope spent years proving what independent artists could do before anyone had a roadmap for it. Nearly half a billion streams on Spotify, sold-out shows across three continents, a devoted following built without a major label or a single compromise. His 2017 release "Work" earned comparisons to Petty and Springsteen while refusing to sit still long enough to be categorized.

Then a tornado hit Nashville, a pandemic followed, and the album he'd written while staring down his own mortality got buried in both. Pope stepped back, became a stay-at-home dad, scrapped the sessions entirely, and started writing directly to his newborn daughter, songs with lessons folded inside them, songs that sounded like they were meant for one person and ended up meaning something to everyone. He rebuilt on his own terms, the same way he built everything else.
