Roger Humphries: A Tribute to Bill Strickland brings together jazz excellence, community, and celebration for a truly special afternoon of music. A legendary drummer, bandleader, and educator, Roger Humphries has spent more than six decades shaping the sound of jazz, performing alongside icons such as Ray Charles and Stanley Turrentine while inspiring generations of musicians through his artistry and mentorship.
This heartfelt performance honors the life and legacy of Bill Strickland, the visionary founder of Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and recipient of the MacArthur “Genius” Award, whose impact on Pittsburgh’s cultural landscape continues to be felt today.
Backed by an all-star ensemble, Humphries will perform a selection of music inspired by some of Bill’s favorite artists, including Ahmad Jamal, Ray Brown, and Cal Tjader. Join us for an afternoon of soul, swing, and remembrance as we celebrate a remarkable friendship and a legacy that continues to inspire.
