Chicago’s own Malik Yusef, a Grammy nominated spoken word poet and eight time Grammy Award winning artist known for his collaborations with some of music’s most influential voices, has spent more than two decades pushing the boundaries between poetry and hip hop. Joining him is Queen Sheba, a Grammy nominated spoken word poet and founder of the nationally touring Poetry vs. Hip-Hop® platform, whose work has helped elevate spoken word culture while creating opportunities for artists across the country. Also taking the stage is award winning poet Red Storm, a commanding voice whose performances have made her a standout in the spoken word community.
Hosted by She.Unapologetic, the evening also features Tony “Mono Flow” as featured poet and DJ Manti on the turntables. The night begins with an open mic for audience poets and builds to the signature Poetry vs. Hip-Hop® Lyrical Battle, where poets and MCs face off and the crowd decides the winner.
