Patti Austin

Patti Austin took her first bow on the Apollo Theater stage at age four, urged up by Dinah Washington herself, and she has spent every year since proving that instinct right. The daughter of jazz trombonist Gordon Austin, she was a chart-charting teenager by 1969 and the most in demand session voice in New York through the 1970s, heard behind Paul Simon, James Brown, Roberta Flack, Luther Vandross and Diana Ross before her godfather Quincy Jones brought her into his orbit. Their partnership produced the GRAMMY nominated "Baby Come To Me" with James Ingram, the Oscar nominated "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?" and a run of Jones classics from The Dude to From Q With Love. Her jazz credentials run just as deep, anchored by the GRAMMY winning Avant Gershwin and her ongoing exploration of the American Songbook.

Patti brings all of it to St. Louis for 2 nights. Expect a set that moves easily between soul, jazz and pop standards, the same versatility that has earned her standing ovations from the Kennedy Center to concert halls across Australia and Europe, and a preview of her latest, the GRAMMY nominated For Ella 2, her tribute to Ella Fitzgerald told in Patti's own storytelling style.
