Over the past fifteen years, Jeff Slate and his band have become known nationally for their no holds barred shows celebrating the music of Bob Dylan. They've headlined shows for Tulsa's Bob Dylan Center, festivals in the artist's hometown of Duluth, Minnesota, and locally with their Dylan Obscura shows and yearly birthday celebrations.
This year, Jeff Slate & Friends -- and some very special guests -- will grace New York City's City Winery on Saturday, May 23rd, with their very own Thin Wild Mercury Music in celebration of Bob Dylan's 85th birthday. Drawing from every era of Dylan's vast catalog of peerless music, Jeff Slate & Friends and company will transform City Winery into the hootenanny of all hootenannys.
Jake Thistle, fresh off his star turn on American Idol, will support
Ever since he was a wee lad, Jeff Slate has been about the riffs. His obsession started with his band the Mindless Thinkers, on to The Badge and can’t stop/won’t stop with his solo work, which has included work with Pete Townshend, Roger McGuinn, Sheryl Crow, Jeff Tweedy, Margo Price and others. His most recent album, The Last Day of Summer, included guest turns from a who's who of rock royalty and was called "an album of classy, Greenwich Village scented folk and soul" by Mojo. Slate has quite possibly written the book on Roy Orbison, a memoir with guitar slinger Earl Slick, more liner notes than a normal human could possibly consume - including projects for the Beatles, the Stones, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and more - and is a guest "rock 'n' roll expert" for Sirius XM. He's even interviewed Bob Dylan. And though he’s been a counselor at the famed Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp, please don’t ask him about your mid-band issues. The man has standards.
