David Wilcox
David Wilcox has spent nearly four decades as a quiet force in American folk music, the kind of songwriter other songwriters study closely. His self-released debut caught the attention of A&M Records in the late 1980s, and his major-label debut, How Did You Find Me Here (1989), sold more than one hundred thousand copies almost entirely through word of mouth and live performance, a rare feat for a debut folk record.
Albums like Big Horizon, Turning Point, and What You Whispered followed. He's shared stages with Shawn Colvin, Patty Larkin, and John Gorka, and in 2018 won top honors at the USA Songwriting Competition. His songs have been covered by k.d. lang and Tony Rice.
His newest record, The Way I Tell the Story (2025), was shaped in part by his wife's Parkinson's diagnosis, a shift that reordered his sense of time and presence without changing his commitment to telling the truth gently and without apology.
