Her performances are immersive and deeply emotional, weaving spoken word, jazz, blues, and soul into moments that linger long after the final verse.
As the youngest winner of the legendary Nuyorican Grand Slam Poetry title, aja monet emerged from New York City’s vibrant grassroots poetry scene and has since become an internationally recognized artist and activist. Her acclaimed collection my mother was a freedom fighter earned a NAACP Image Award nomination, while her Grammy-nominated spoken word album when the poems do what they do explores themes of love, resistance, and joy with striking honesty and musicality.
